New Home for the Rosenberghs?

As most of you know, Kurt and I have been shacking up with my mother-in-law for the last 2 years. I am very grateful for this, but lately I have been looking around for our own place.

Easier said than done.

First of all, location. Kurt and I both work within 6 miles of the house now. It is SO nice not to have to commute, and I am not really trying to start anytime soon!

Second, these dogs. We love our dogs, but I am SOO tired of carrying them up and down steps. We have been on the lookout for a new place with no stairs, or a place where we would only need to carry them up to go to bed at night.

Third, Space and Storage. Enough said.

Anyway, we may have found a place today. We met with the lady, looked around, now is the waiting game. So keep your fingers (and paws...for Osc and Lyla!) crossed!!

Those Komar boys...

For those who know me, you already know that I love Aron and Jason as if they were my own. I miss them terribly, and Kurt and i were fortunate enough to spend time with them last weekend.

I love love LOVE the funny things that kids say, especially these two! Here are some recent favorites:

Jason, Age 4, saying his prayers: Dear God, thank you for ladybugs, and please help me not to step on them because they don't bother anybody and they don't bite. Amen. P.S. Thank you for God's words. Amen.

Me: Aron, when did your feet grow so big?
Aron, Age 7: Yeah, I work out.

Aron: I called you today because I need someones phone number.
Me: Oh yeah? Whose?
Aron: YOUR MOM!!

Kurt: Hey Dude!
Jason: I'm not dude, I'm Jason (with a disgusted look)

Aron: Where did you go for dinner?
Me: Magianos
Aron: That sounds Chinese to me!

Baby its cold outside...

I usually love the winter time. I love snow, and I love the way Chicago looks when its all decorated for Christmas. I love wearing sweaters and jeans and boots. I work inside, so aside from cleaning my car off, I don't have to deal with it. Poor Kurt hates snow, because he is in and out of his truck all day and ends up cold, wet and cranky by the end of the night!

This week has been insane! It has been -15 at night with the windchill!! I do NOT like this weather, ugh! I have to coax the dogs outside with pieces of hotdogs, and have been sleeping in sweat pants, hooded sweatshirts and wool socks!

My poor dogs have bellies which are only 3 inches from the ground, so you can imagine how they feel!

In hopes of making myself warm by thinking warm thoughts, I am going to post a few pics of Kurt and I's garden last spring/summer. It was our first garden, and we did pretty well for armatures!

1500 miles...

We literally just  in walked in the door from visiting my family in Virginia for the weekend. I had every intention as we were driving through Ohio to get home and post pictures right away.

As we crossed through Indiana, I thought maybe I would do it later on tonight.

As we pulled through Chicago, I decided that it was a lost cause. Maybe I will have the energy to do it tomorrow =)

I miss my family already. I was fortunate enough to spend time with my Mom and Dad and sisters, but also some other very good friends. We spent quality time with Aron and Jason, had a wonderful dinner with Laura, and even got to meet Heather's 5 week old baby girl, Joselyn!

Kurt, the dogs, and I are ready for bed, and we don't care that it is only 8pm! I will never understand how or why traveling makes you so tired. All I did was sit in a car for 12 hours!!

Weiner Dog Event

I found my camera!

On Saturday, my Mother-In-Law, Kurt, Oscar, Lyla and I went to an event for the Suburban Chicago Dachshund Lovers. This month's theme was "Walkin' in a Weiner Wonderland."

Oscar and Lyla ran and ran and ran with about 20 other dachshunds. Oscar especially liked chasing after a wirehaired, standard doxie, named Gorilla. =)

I feel so blessed to have found this group not long after we got Oscar. They were constant support to a new puppy owner, and I have met a lot of really wonderful people. They have get togethers every month or so, with themes, food, costume contests, etc.

Oscar and Lyla get a lot of exercise and socialization, and have even gone swimming for the first time with these new friends. They especially love their auntie Patti, who organizes the events, and gives them lots of hugs and kisses. She does a great job!!!

Doxies are very hard to photograph in general. They move way too fast and have the attention span of a toddler! So here are just a few pictures from the event!

This is Patti's Oscar Mayer...he will turn 17 next month!!

Kurt's mom made these harness vests for them, they are awesome and keep them from pulling too much on their sensitive spines.

The best of 2010

Today was a pretty terrible day all around, so instead of sitting around and feeling sorry for myself, I decided to post about the good things in life. 2010 was certainly rocky for us, but there were some good times too. So, here goes nothing...
Rosenbergh top 10 of 2010!

1. This crazy freakin dog. We got Oscar in September 2009, so this was our first whole year with him...and I could not have imagined it with out him!!
2. Lots of rest and relaxation, which was much needed after all of the running around we did :)

3. Our Lyla Bug! We adopted Lyla on April 10, 2010.

4. Our first full year of being Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Rosenbergh!!

5. A WONDERFUL visit to Virginia to see Family and Friends in June. This was taken at the Air and Space Museum, where we saw the sights and enjoyed time with my two favorite little guys!

6. Our Chicago Wedding reception.

7. A nice WARM summer (as I am posting, its 16 degrees and snowing!)

8. Mini-vaca to the Dachshund Festival in Danville, IL

9. October visit home for Heather's baby shower, time with Laura, and the boys!
10. Wonderful Holiday Season!

Happy Birthday, Erin!

I can't believe my "little" sister is 25 today! I called her today and reminded her that she was a quarter of a century old today, she didn't care for that too much. I have watched Erin struggle in her 25 years more than anyone I know. She is truly amazing, and her imagination never ceases to amaze me.

Ever since we were little (shes only 20 months younger than me) she could create things and ideas that would blow you away. She is beautiful inside and out, and can get away with walking into a store with this ridiculous Kitty hat that she has, and she makes it look SO good!!

Two years ago, we almost lost Erin to a large blood clot in her lung. She was airlifted from our hometown in Warrenton, to Fairfax INOVA. It was truly one of the scariest moments of my life. I walked out of work and raced to the hospital, only to get there and find her talking in one of her crazy voices and telling one of the nurses, "Not a chance, Pink Pants!"

Some of the things that she says can make me laugh until my stomach hurts, even years later!!

I looked everywhere to find a picture of her where she wasn't making a funny face. It's impossible.
This was taken at my bridal shower, Erin is most likely talking in a funny voice to or about her Italian Greyhound, LuLu.
Man, my sister is freakin' hilarious...

Let it snow!

It's amazing how a city reacts to snow in the forecast.

Back home in Warrenton, life comes to a screeching halt when snow is predicted. Schools are cancelled before anything starts falling, people flock to the grocery stores, and everyone stays home.

Here in the Chicago suburbs, people are more prepared. The kids rarely miss school, and the roads are usually plowed before you even have to go out anywhere. People just go about their business like its nothing.

When I moved here 2 years ago, I would get all excited when it started to snow. My boss told me that by the end of the season I would be cursing it just like everyone else. Well, hes wrong, I still love the snow, and in fact, I am astonished at the LACK of snow around here lately. We had our White Christmas, and since then, it has been in the mid 40s during the days, and all my beautiful snow is gone. I have yet to have to use 4-wheel-drive to get to work, and although my dogs hate it, I am ready for some more of the white stuff!

2011 for the Rosenberghs...

First of all, Happy New Year to all of our friends and family out there! Kurt worked until after 8pm last night, and I was home with a head cold, so needless to say, it was a quiet evening here at the Rosenbergh house.

As we ring in a new year, there is always talk of resolutions and what not. I would really like to loose weight, and be more organized and all of those traditional resolutions, but I always fail at keeping those things. I decided to make a list of goals, rather than resolutions, so here it goes.

1. To move.
Let me just start by saying that I am very grateful to my mother-in-law, for letting us stay here with her for the last 2 years, but the time has come. I feel like Kurt and I need our own space to learn and grow as a married couple. Our dogs also need more space. At this point, I am carrying nearly 30 pounds of dog up and down a flight of steps each time they need to go out. We have been looking at homes, and discussing our options, so hopefully 2011 will bring home ownership for us!

2. To stay healthy.
I don't think that things could get any worse than they were in 2010. I rang in the new year with a concussion last year, and I should have known that it was a bad omen or something. I myself had 5 visits to the ER this year, and 2 complicated hospital admissions. It was found that I have a pocket of fluid to the right of my spine in April, which caused an infection, complete with high fevers and severe back pain. I am still suffering, but things are much better, and I plan to keep them that way! I also had a miscarriage in July, which we are hoping not to have to repeat!! Kurt went to the ER once this year, for putting a drill bit through his finger. He probably should have gone a few other times for similar shenanigans, but he's tough, unlike me! Lyla has also been sick a good bit this year, with her liver problems etc.

3. To earn money with my hobby.
I LOVE my job, and I Love working with patients every day, but everyone knows that I would much rather be scrapbooking, making cards, painting, sewing, drawing, or anything creative. I would love to set up a shop on etsy this year, and sell homemade Christmas cards, ornaments, etc etc etc. If I could at least sell enough to support my habit, that would be great! I've asked Kurt how much I would have to sell to quit my job and he doesn't answer me :)

4. To communicate better.
I think that every argument, at least in this house, boils down to lack of communication. Kurt and I both work pretty stressful jobs, and that paired with financial stress, and the stress of not having a space to call our own, causes us to get pretty frustrated with one another sometimes. Bottom line, we need to get better at talking to each other instead of just blowing up!

5. To go out and DO more!
I think in my old age (26, ha!) I have gotten lazy. This city has so much to offer, and I plan on seeing it this year. Kurt and I recently rode the L (my first time!) down to the Daley center and went to the Christkindlmart and had a blast. I want to do and experience more with my husband in 2011. Including the dog parks and beaches Chicago has to offer, the incredible restaurants, etc etc etc

I think that's enough. If I can accomplish these things, along with loose some weight and become more organized, that would be great. If I can't accomplish these things, then at least I can start walking in the right direction.

I'll end this post with a picture of Kurt and I at my company's Christmas Party 2 weeks ago, I haven't posted it anywhere yet, so you all will be the first to see it! Have a wonderful New Years Day!!
